Characteristics of the Doctoral Programme in Social Work
Duration of study: 4 years
The Postgraduate Program in Social Work prepares top social work professionals, who are proficient in research methods and can develop concepts, strategies and evaluations for the development of social programs, policies and services of which social work is a part.
The study programme in Social Work is being implemented in cooperation between two faculties, the Faculty of Arts of Charles University and the Faculty of Humanities of Charles University. It is intended for graduates of various Master’s degree programmes in Social Work and Social Policy. It is also open to graduates of related fields of study who have experience in solving social problems or with activities within the social services or social policy sector, and who have the aptitude for research and conceptual work. The content of studies and the topics of dissertations are based on the field of social work and have an interdisciplinary overlap with the fields of psychology, pedagogy, special education, sociology, and, where applicable, criminal justice, economics and health care. The programme´s openess to international cooperation is underlined by the requirement of candidate´s language proficiency, the participation of international experts in the field council and a recommended study stay abroad (preferably semester-long).
